Company report
Summary of Results
Absolute results remain low overall and Grupo México’s results are largely dependent on the formal commitments it has made, to prevent bribery and corruption and to ensure safe and healthy working conditions. In addition, as evidence of Grupo México’s continuous improvement efforts since the RMI Report 2018 the company has established a formal, dedicated commitment statement on human rights.
Grupo México ranks 31st among the 38 companies on its mine-site-level results, with an average score of only 1% in the mine-site assessment.
In the company-wide assessment, Grupo México’s overall results are below the average across all 38 companies in all six thematic areas, and the company’s results are limited by a lack of evidence of action on some key issues. For example, Grupo México shows no evidence of tracking and reviewing the effectiveness of its whistleblowing mechanisms or its management of human rights issues. In addition, the company shows no evidence of ensuring its operations plan for the management of post-closure transition for workers and affected communities, or conduct and disclose integrated assessments of their environmental and social impacts.
Moreover, Grupo México’s results in the mine-site assessment are strikingly weak. Aside from some limited evidence on worker grievances, none of the five mine sites assessed show any relevant evidence for any of the other issues covered by this assessment: local employment, local procurement, post-closure planning, community grievances, air quality, water quality and quantity, and emergency preparedness.
