    Summary of Results

Absolute results remain low overall and Bumi Resources’ results are mostly limited to its formal commitments, for example on preventing bribery and corruption and on ensuring safe and healthy working conditions. The company’s results also rely in part on its systematic approach to assess and address the risks of child labour and forced labour in its operations and supply chains.

Bumi Resources ranks 17th among the 38 companies on its mine-site-level results, with an average score of only 15% in the mine-site assessment.

There is evidence of Bumi Resources’ continuous improvement efforts on human rights and business ethics, since the RMI Report 2018. The company recently established a formal and comprehensive policy on respecting human rights, in line with the UN Guiding Principles, and created a team to oversee the implementation of this policy. Similarly, Bumi Resources has recently established a high-level committee to oversee the implementation of its recently expanded Code of Conduct.

Overall however, Bumi Resources’ results are below the average across all 38 companies in all six thematic areas.

Bumi Resources’ overall results are limited by a lack of evidence of systematic action on a number of key issues, such as assessing and addressing adverse impacts on land use and access to land by affected communities, and assessing and addressing ESG risks associated with mergers, acquisitions and disposals. Furthermore, the company has yet to show evidence of the implementation of its human rights policy, including the implementation of human rights due diligence processes.

Moreover, none of the four Bumi Resources mine sites assessed in the mine-site-level assessment show any relevant evidence for three of the ten issues covered: local employment, local procurement and worker grievances.
